Usually, these agents find no other use in medicine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Diagnostic agents are divided according to the use as<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li> drugs used as X-ray contrast media<\/li><li>drugs used to test organ functions<\/li><li>drugs used to determine blood volume and haemopoietic function and<\/li><li>drugs used for miscellaneous agents. <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">CLASSIFICATION<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>They are classified according to their test functionalities as<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol type=\"i\"><li>Gall bladder function, cholecystography, and cholangiography: eg. Iocetamic acid, Iodipamide, Tyropanoate sodium.<\/li><li>Gastric function: eg. Pentagastrin, Congored.<\/li><li>Liver function: eg. Indocyanine green.<\/li><li>Ophthalmic diagnostic aid: eg. Fluorescein sodium.<\/li><li>Pancreatic function: eg. Bentiromide.<\/li><li>Intestinal function: eg. Barium sulfate, Xylose.<ul><li>Radiological Contrast Media A) Heavy metals and salts: eg. i) Barium Sulphate (BaSO4) \u2013<ul><li>Low systematic toxicity -Low water solubility \u2013<\/li><li>Lack of osmotic activity \u2013<\/li><li>Used for examination of GIT -Used as suspension or thick cream<\/li><li>Orally or through rectal route &#8211; sod.citrate is added to stabilize preparation<\/li><li>Sorbitol added to enhance the function<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>Kidney function: eg. Aminohippurate sodium, Indigotin disulfonate, Phenolsulphophthalein.<\/li><li>Lymphatic system: eg. Isosulfan blue.<\/li><li>Bronchial airway hyperacidity: eg. Methacholine.<\/li><li>Drug \u2013 hypersensitivity: eg. Benzyl penicilloyl polylysine.<\/li><li>Drugs used in X-ray contrast medium: eg. Diatriazoic acid, Iocetamic acid, Iothalamic acid, Propyliodone.<\/li><li>Miscellaneous: eg.
